I've already celebrated my 40th birthday, I'm extremely unfit and I love all the wrong foods. You could just about class me as being beyond hope. But I'm also a father (and husband) so I've got a lot to live for, and this coupled with the realisation that my current lifestyle isn't going to allow me to see my children become adults has forced me to start thinking about my lifestyle.
I've recently been forced to start commuting to work, and because I'm a cheap bastard more that anything else, I've dusted my bike off to save $40 a week in bus fares and now combine a 30 minute train ride with a 20 minute bike ride to get to work, four days a week.
This is the current extent of my regular exercising.
I do have an XBox 360 with Kinect at home, and a couple of exercise 'games' that have been collecting dust. I aim to get these out again, and try and be a bit more proactive with them. I've also just laid my hands on a copy of UFC Personal Trainer for the Kinect which looks like it will kill me.
So this blog is really just a space for me to be accountable, an online diary (does anyone call them online diaries anymore?) of my successes and failures. You'll get the chance to hear me (well, read me) vent about the crazy drivers whose sole purpose in life seems to be to force me off the road, my half arsed attempts to complete easy workouts with my Kinect enabled 'games' and my tales of woe as I recount an evening playing online games whilst consuming a liter of coke and a whole packet of chocolate biscuits.
It'll probably be the most boring blog in the world, but hopefully it'll encourage me to keep at it, and who knows, might increase my life expectancy somewhat.
